Past Life & Environments
The focus of this theme is understanding the causes and effects of past climatic and environmental change to assess their influence on evolution and biodiversity as well as providing the basis of which to evaluate the potential impacts of future climate change.
The Partners’ research strengths cover all the major time periods from the Precambrian to the Anthropocene.
This pathway will also focus on the changing relationship between humans and the environment from our evolution in Africa, to the origins of agriculture and urbanisation, to the effect of the industrial revolution.
The DTP has world renowned experts in palaeoclimate, palaeoceanography, palaeoecology, palaeoliminology, palaeohydrology, science based archaeology, molecular palaeobiology, vertebrate palaeobiology, Quaternary palaeontology, palaeoanthropology, plant and animal domestication and extinction.
