This project centres itself around the improvement of the Geographic Profiling model, a technique originating in criminology to identify the anchor point(s) (home or workplace) of a criminal, given a set of linked crime sites. This method now sets itself within an environmental remit, identifying foraging patterns, sources of invasive species, the outbreak of disease, and more. I will implement three main variables where the model requires adaptation. These three are: temporal variability, gathering information from the time associated with a crime, extending the model to include presence/absence data and weighting crime sites by their value to the offender. All implementation will require rigorous testing and this is achieved through both simulated and real world data sets spanning criminology, epidemiology and ecology. By efficiently identifying sources of, for example, disease outbreak, cost-effective interventions can be made to prevent and or control future hazards if and when they occur.
