Abstract

PhD Aims

a. To understand the structure and origin of landscape evolution in the Cisnes-Ñirehuao-Toqui basins since the local Last Glacial Maximum.
b. To investigate, understand and document the response of Patagonian palaeo- glaciers to Southern Hemisphere climate forcing during the Last Glacial-Interglacial Transition.
c. To elucidate the drivers behind Patagonian Ice Sheet response to periods of rapid climate change during the Last Glacial-Interglacial Transition.

Methods

– Geomorphological mapping (ArcMap): generation of a basin-wide glacial/glaciolacustrine geomorphological map.
– Geomorphological field mapping: ground-truthing of remotely sensed data.
– Cosmogenic Nuclide Surface Exposure Dating: AMS of from moraine boulder samples.
– Analysis of glaciolacustrine varves: thin sections, xrf, micromorphology.
