Teaching Support Opportunities in Geography at Queen Mary University of London

Teaching Support Opportunities in the School of Geography, Queen Mary University of London

A number of teaching support opportunities are available in the School of Geography at Queen Mary University of London to support delivery of their Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes in Geography and Environmental Science.

Support is needed for Teaching Associates and Demonstrators. Teaching Associates will typically deliver seminars, in coordination with the Lecturer/Module Convenor; Demonstrators will typically be involved in demonstrating laboratory techniques, statistical methods/software, and supporting fieldwork (some of this may be residential and outside London). Those applying would need to commit to 2-3 hours of teaching per week, plus 2-4 hours for preparation. Hourly rates start at £19.03 for Teaching Associates and £15.46 for Demonstrators (please note these will increase once the outcome of the latest DCEA pay settlement has been calculated). Additional hours for training, administration and holiday are also paid.

These roles would be suitable to PhD students with an interest in gaining teaching experience and who have a background in human geography, physical geography, and/or environmental science and cognate disciplines (e.g. the social sciences, biology, ecology).

If you are interested in finding out more, please complete this short form to register your interest: https://forms.office.com/r/PFrYqbMiu0 by Monday 1st August. Please also send a copy of you CV to a.loveland@qmul.ac.uk. QMUL are currently looking for support for the autumn term, though some modules run across both terms and these are clearly indicated, and you would need to be available from later September. More information on the modules listed in the form can be found here. Generic job profiles for the role of Demonstrator and Teaching Associate are available here. Allocations to modules will be made in mid-August and you will contacted then to confirm details.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Andrew Loveland at a.loveland@qmul.ac.uk.
