Internships with Halliburton in Geophysics, Applied Data Science and Computer Science

Halliburton have four intern projects which aim to solve petroleum geoscience challenges based in their Abingdon office in Oxfordshire. They are therefore seeking to recruit 10 interns:

  • 4 with geophysical backgrounds
  • 3 with experience in applied data science
  • 3 computer scientists.

 

1. Geophysics:

The 4 geophysics interns should have an undergraduate qualification in geophysics/physics/or a mathematical science and be studying for a postgraduate degree in geophysics.

The successful candidate will have an understanding of the importance, application and impact of data science (especially machine learning and the utilization of big data) in resolving geophysical problems. Experience in seismic interpretation and analysis, and python programming is desirable.

 

2. Applied Data Science:

The 3 interns with applied data science backgrounds will need to show the ability to understand complex geological concepts, appreciate their significance, and ultimately represent the concepts in software code, through the modification of existing code or development of new code.

The successful candidates will have an understanding of machine learning applications within data science, ranging from the application of neural networks to more advanced processes. Knowledge of geoscience, specifically stratigraphy, would be beneficial.

We welcome applications from petroleum, chemical or electrical engineers who have a proven track record in applying data science techniques to geological problems.

 

3. Computer Science

The 3 computer science interns will need to show demonstrable experience of programming with Java, ideally when applied to the analysis of numerical data at scale. An ability to understand complex mathematical concepts is requisite and knowledge in cloud computing would be beneficial.

We welcome applications from petroleum, chemical or electrical engineers who have a proven track record in applying computer science techniques to geological problems.

 

The chosen candidates will work within multi-disciplinary teams, alongside subject matter experts, to complete projects that have been hand-selected by Landmark Leadership. These projects have a high level of visibility within the organization and we anticipate that they will result in patents, publications or conference presentations.

The internships will run concurrently over the summer of 2019 (June-August), will be of 8-12 weeks’ duration and be funded by Landmark. Accommodation in Abingdon can also be supported.
