Letters to a pre-scientist

Are you a scientist who wants to exchange letters with a pre-scientist?

Registration for scientists to become pen pals for the 2018-19 school year is now open!

  1. Register to request a pen pal.
  2. Check your email in August to receive a link to the 1-hour online training.
  3. After you complete your training, you are eligible to be matched with a pen pal. We match scientists to pre-scientists based on their interests. If we can’t find a match for you right away, you will be added to our waiting list.

The mission of Letters to a Pre-Scientist is to demystify science careers by creating personal connections between students from high-poverty schools and real scientists.

We help students form friendships with scientists from around the world. Our program is a cross-curricular experience where students learn science while improving their reading and writing skills and broadening their understanding of world geography and culture. We believe that every student is a pre-scientist, and we aim to give them the tools they need to continue their education.

At the core of our mission is a desire to see students of all races, ethnicities, and economic backgrounds succeed in their science education. For this reason, we focus on bringing our program to schools with a high proportion of students from low-income families.
